Breast Cancer Awareness month is just around the corner, from October 1 thru October 31.
According to the American Cancer Society, this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will offer varied activities. American Cancer Society is committed to helping prevent breast cancer, developing guidelines to help with early detection, and providing support to women coping with the disease. With the current pandemic, everyone has many comfort levels, so ACS wants to ensure everyone can still come “together” to support the fight against breast cancer.  There is a multitude of local activities for people to become involved in during October, and they accommodate all comfort levels.

WALK ALONG THE RIVERFRONT
The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Eastern Long Island will take place back in person in a new location along Main Street Riverhead on Saturday, October 30th! This year for safety measures, all participants for the 2021 riverfront walk will be required to register for the event.

According to the American Cancer Society, you can make strides anywhere and count your steps while doing it. American Cancer Society is challenging everyone to get active and reach a goal of 6,000 steps a day, at least three times a week! They recommend you get started by following the three steps below:

1. Sign up using the link below:
https://pledgeit.org/for/stepupforhopelongisland

2. Encourage your friends and family to pledge for each day you hit your goal of 6,000 steps. They can donate any amount.

3. Get stepping to save lives!

DEDICATE A PINWHEEL
A favorite way to honor a loved one is to dedicate a pinwheel in memory of them or honor someone fighting the fight against breast cancer. The American Cancer Society will add these memorial pinwheels to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Garden.

There are many ways we can all do our part as a community to support the fight and help
make strides against Breast Cancer this October.
