Long Island may be right next to NYC, but it’s a million miles away in terms of atmosphere! While New Yorkers flocks to countrysides and farms this time of year for harvest fests, apple picking and traipsing pumpkin patches for that perfect jack-o-lantern, you don’t need to go far at all! Here are two suggestions for nearby Long Island farms where you can find the perfect pumpkin for Halloween.
Schmitt Family Farm – Located in Dix Hills, less than 20 minutes away from your Alston apartment in Ronkonkoma, the Schmitt Family has been running their farm for decades, but their families have been running farms on Long Island since 1853! Every year, you can check out their farm for pumpkins, mum, gourds and other seasonal fun to get your apartment looking festive for the fall.
Glover Farms – Also located less than 20 minutes from your Alston apartment in Ronkonkoma is Glover Farms in Brookhaven. The Glover family also hail from longtime Long Island farmers and they started their farm in 1952 as a potato farm. As the business declined, the Glovers revamped their crops and today Glover Farms is known best for their strawberries, and as one of the first u-pick farms in Long Island, the town renamed their cross street Strawberry Lane! This time of year you can find pumpkins on the farm. Glover Farms is open every day in October for pumpkin picking. They also have a 10acre corn maze to try while you’re there!
